2008 Chris Miller Prowler Alumni Game
On Wednesday, December 17th, 2008, Prowler Hockey held it's third annual Chris Miller Prowler Hockey Alumni Game to continue the celebration of 10 years of Prowler Hockey. With the varsity team sitting in 1st place in the GCHSCHL at the holiday break, they were challenged by an alumni team that featured some of the best players ever to wear a Prowler jersey. The alumni team's numbers were impressive with 10 former captains, 15 GCHSCHL Regular Season Champions, 21 former Blue Jacket Cup Champions (including 6 two time Champions) and 12 of the top 25 All-Time scorers. That included three of the top five point producers of all time in Cody Berkebile (2007 Pickerington North), Nick Hess (2007 Pickerington Central) and Jimmy Betts (2003 Pickerington) (see more alumni player information below). In total, 22 alumni came out to participate in the event.
The game was named in 2006 to honor former Watkins Memorial High School student Chris Miller, who wore number 16 for the Prowlers from their inaugural season in 1998-1999 to his departure for Junior B hockey with the Peoria Mustangs and Columbus Crush in 2001-2002. Chris passed away on October 11th of 2002 and was honored at this year's game by his parents Tom and Doreen Miller who dropped the honorary 1st puck with Chris' younger brother and current Prowler Jake Miller and Chris' good friend and former teammate Jimmy Betts facing off.
This season the alumni dominated with a 9-2 victory behind 4 goals by Cody Berkebile and 3 goals by Nick Hess. Justin Lohrman (2007 Pickerington North) played solid in goal for the "old guys", backstopping the alumni team to victory over the current varsity squad.
There was a great fan turnout for the game again this year with many friends and family members in attendance lining the glass. Afterwards the players all enjoyed some time mingling with past teammates and getting to know the past and present of Prowler Hockey. The event was a fun time for all, and players have already begun to discuss "next year's game". Thanks to all of the Prowler Alumni who came out to participate and helped to continue our "Tradition of Excellence".
