2002-2003 BLUE JACKET CUP CHAMPIONS!
PRPC Hockey won the 2nd Annual GCHSCHL "Blue Jackets Cup", Sunday, February 23rd, 2003, by knocking off the defending "Blue Jackets Cup" champs and number one seed, the Athens Bobcats(18-4-2), by a score of 2-1.
The Ice Prowlers finished the regular season with a record of 17-5-2, and came into the GCHSCHL "Blue Jackets Cup" Tournament as the Number Two seed.
They defeated the #7 Newark Generals(2-22), Thursday, in the first round of the tournament by a score of 18-2, then followed that up Friday with a 4-2 victory over the #6 Northeast Storm(3-20-1).
PRPC Hockey advanced to the Championship game of the GCHSCHL "Blue Jackets Cup" for the first time in the organization's history after a 5-1 victory Saturday over the #4 Westerville Warcats(16-7-1).
The championship was a bittersweet end to a great season for first year head coach Marty Laroche and his staff (Jay C. Catherine and Andy Loughnane). It was also the final game for PRPC Seniors, captain/forward Jimmy Betts(6), alternate captain/defensman Bo Ross(11), forwards Andy Shank(7) and Chris Van Ooyen(3), and defensmen Matt Harbuck(5), Mike Laird(15) and Jim Ozamiz(11).
The post game festivities saw Sophomore forward Ryan Markell(14) accept the team MVP Award. While team captains Betts, Ross and alternate captain/forward T.J. Hess(41) accepted the league championship trophy and the Blue Jackets Cup.
While Freshman goaltender Jesse Betts(35) finished the tournamnet with a perfect 4-0 record and a 1.36 Goals Against Average, it was a complete team effort bringing the PRPC Hockey team the championship.
The entire team had the opportunity to participate in the traditional championship lap around the rink with the Cup. In addition to those already mentioned, forwards, Sophomores Eric Weinhold(8), Eric Willard(9), Anthony Kantor(10), Mike Miller(18), Freshmen Nick Miller(22), Jeff Laird(26) and Ben French(77); defensmen, Sophomore Matt Schuh(17) and Junior Josh Martyn(55); and backup goalie, Sophomore goalie Nickolas Wright(33) all had their chance to skate with the Cup.
Congratulations on a Championship season!
