Game Recap
Ice Prowlers away versus the Newark Generals
McGrew gets 1st High School Shutout On a cold Thursday night in Newark, the Prowlers came into town to play the Newark Generals. Fresh off of a 4-3 victory over the Westerville Warcats (12/03/2004) in their only contest the previous weekend, the Prowlers had to start their toughest weekend of the schedule. With three games in 4 nights on the docket, including their furthest travel of the season to Newark and Athens, the team knew that they had to be prepared against the Generals on their home ice. With junior goaltender Jesse Betts serving a one game suspension, freshman Miles McGrew got the start for the Prowlers while Evan LaNoutte got the start this time for Newark. Senior alternate captain Anthony Kantor started the scoring just two minutes into the game, but after that, it became a goaltending dual. LaNoutte, always a solid goaltender, was able to keep the score at 1-0 despite facing 24 shots in the first two periods while the Prowler defense allowed only 6 shots against McGrew. With the score still 1-0 with just 7:29 remaining in the third period, the Prowlers went on their first and only power play of the night when Bryan Lewis went off for tripping. The power play was quick to take advantage with junior Taylor Walcutt scoring (assisted by Kantor) to give his team a two goal lead at 6:07. Then 29 seconds later the duo teamed up again for Kantor's second goal of the night (assisted by Walcutt) on another rebound goal. With 1:29 remaining in the game Kantor connected again (assisted by Walcutt and sophomore Nick Hess) to finish the scoring and record the team's 6th hat trick of the season (from 4 different players). The Prowler defense allowed only 10 shots in the game and McGrew earned his first high school shutout making two key stops late in the third period to preserve the shutout and extend his record to 6-2 (5-1 in league play). Now the Prowlers continue their road trip as they go south to Athens, Ohio to face the Athens Bobcats on Saturday (12/11/2004) at 6:30 PM at Ohio University Bird Arena. Then, Sunday (12/12/2004) at 5:30 at the CoreComm Ice Haus the Prowlers will have a rematch with the Westerville Warcats in what looks to be another battle for sole possession of 1st place. |
