2006 Post Season Review

PROWLERS FINISH REGULAR SEASON IN 2ND AFTER SLOW START
GCHSCHL - Greater Columbus High School Club Hockey LeagueThe Prowlers finished their season 14-7-3 (19-15-3 Overall) after winning only three of their first 12 games of the season. The Prowlers turned things around after the Thanksgiving break and finished the season strong dropping only four of their final 16 games down the stretch and finishing in second place, just three points behind the GCHSCHL Regular Season Champion Athens Bobcats. The team returned to the Blue Jackets Cup Finals for the fourth consecutive season after going through the entire GCHSCHL (each team except for Newark) in the Blue Jackets Cup Tournament to set a rematch with the Westerville Warcats for the Cup. In the Buckeye Cup State Playoffs, the Prowler's went 1-2 highlighted by a 6-1 win over Colerain/Northwest (CHSHL) and a tough 2-1 loss to the 2005 and 2006 State Champion Medina Bees (NCHSHL). In all it was another succesful season for Coach Marty Laroche and the 2005-2006 Prowlers.

PROWLERS MAKE 4TH TRIP TO CUP FINALS...LOSE 4-2 TO WESTERVILLE
The GCHSCHL Blue Jackets CupJust as they did in the regular season, the Prowlers took the hard road in the GCHSCHL Blue Jackets Cup Championship Tournament, facing every league team except for Newark in the tournament. Entering the tournament as the number two seed, they started out with an 11-3 win over the seventh seed Northeast Storm (02/16/2006) in the Thursday game before dropping their second round game 6-5 in a hard fought battle with the Westerville Warcats on Friday (02/17/2006). The marathon trip back to the Cup Finals included a 6-0 win over the forth seed Hilliard Wildcats Saturday morning (02/18/2006), a 4-3 victory over the fifth seed Olentangy Braves Saturday night (02/18/2006), and a 4-3 overtime win over the number one seed Athens Bobcats on Sunday morning (02/19/2006) to force a rematch with the Warcats Sunday afternoon in their fourth consecutive Cup Finals appearance. Playing their fifth game in 41 hours as a result of a second round loss, the Prowlers were a weary bunch. They knew they forced the sudden death game in the 2005 Cup Finals and were looking to again until injuries to Berkebile and McGrath dashed those hopes. As the Prowlers battled back from behind to bring the game within a tying goal it was not enough as the Warcats scored an empty net goal in the final minute to clinch their second Blue Jackets Cup Championship.

  • PROWLERS PARTICIPATE IN 2ND BUCKEYE CUP STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT
PRPC Prowler Hockey This year, the state of Ohio held the 2nd Annual Buckeye Cup State Championship Tournament hosted in Columbus, Ohio by the GCHSCHL. The tournament was created in 2004-2005 to crown a champion of the best non-OHSAA (Ohio High School Athletic Association) high school hockey teams. The Prowlers advanced as the number two seed from Columbus, and were joined by the Athens Bobcats, Westerville Warcats and Hilliard/SW Wildcats as representatives of the GCHSCHL. The Tournament took place the second weekend of March (10-12) after the GCHSCHL Blue Jackets Cup Tournament and included the top four teams from the GCHSCHL (Columbus), the top five teams from the North Coast High School Hockey League (Cleveland) and the top three teams from the Cincinnati High School Hockey League (Cincinnati). Prior to 2005, Non-OHSAA sanctioned teams were unable to compete at the State Championship level.

Buckeye Cup State ChampionshipsThe Prowlers finished their regular season 14-7-3 and in second place in the GCHSCHL. With that, they gained the GCHSCHL's number two seed in the 2nd Annual Buckeye Cup State Championship. The team battled the Westerville Warcats for the second straight season in the 2006 Blue Jackets Cup GCHSCHL Championship before falling 4-2. They were hoping for redemption by challenging for the Buckeye Cup State Championship but fell victim of scheduling and were forced to lose four players to the U18 AA Columbus Blue Jackets as they advanced to their Regional Championship Tournament. Playing with a short manned roster the Prowlers easily dispatched Colerain/Northwest (CHSHL) 6-1 in their first preliminary round game. The Prowlers then fell 2-1 in a hard fought battle with the 2005 Buckeye Cup Champion and eventual 2006 Champs in the Medina Bees (NCHSHL). With a Final Four spot still on the line the Prowlers went head to head with the Jackson Polar Bears (NCHSHL) but were unsuccesful in obtaining enough points to advance after a 4-1 loss. The Prowlers congratulate the 2006 Buckeye Cup State Champion Medina Bees (NCHSHL) for a job well done on winning their second consecutive State Championship.
