FORMER PROWLERS: 2008-2009 ALUMNI GAME
The Ice Prowlers started a new tradition in the 2006-2007 season with the first ever Chris Miller Prowler Alumni Game. The first game had a great turnout with the varsity team defeating the alumni team 6-4. In 2007, the alumni marched onto a 7-5 victory to even the score at one game a piece. Who will be participating in 2008's game. Please contact head coach Jay C. to register for next year's event. Alumni News from the 2007-2008 Season
WILLARD, ROSSI AND BERKEBILE LEAD ATHENS TO MOBIHL CHAMPIONSHIP 13-0-2
Prowler hockey would like to congratulate three former Prowler captains and Blue Jacket Cup winners who have led the Athens Bobcats bantam team in the Mid Ohio Bantam Hockey League (MOBHL) to a perfect 13-0-2 regular season record and the Canadian Division Championship. In their first year behind the bench, head coach and 2005 Reynoldsburg graduate Eric Willard and his assistant coaches and 2007 Pickerington North graduates Brian Rossi and Cody Berkebile carried the winning tradions of Prowler Hockey over to the Athens Youth Hockey Association. All three served as Prowler captains during their senior season and were each two time Blue Jacket Cup Champions (Willard in 2003 and 2004, Rossi and Berkebile in 2004 and 2007). The trio are currently students at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. Best of luck in the MOHIBL playoffs.
2007 CHRIS MILLER PROWLER ALUMNI GAME
On Wednesday (12/19) Prowler Hockey held it's second Chris Miller Prowler Alumni Game. The game pitted the current Prowler varsity team against some of the greatest players in Prowler hockey history. Seven was the magic number for this year's game as the seven 2007 graduates made the difference for the alumni squad. They provided "new blood" that gave the alumni a jump with good skill and speed. 2007 Pickerington Central grad Nick Hess and 2007 Pickerington North grad Cody Berkebile led the alumni team to a 7-5 victory over the current varsity squad. It was a great game with incredible fan support from the many friends and family members of both the current and alumni Prowlers. The Prowlers hope to continue the tradition for years to come. JIMMY BETTS' VARKAUS EAGLES GO 14-0 IN FINLAND

Congratulations to former Prowler and 2003 Pickerington graduate Jimmy Betts who helped lead the Varkaus Eagles of the Finnish Ice Hockey Association’s 2nd Division (Group 4) in Varkaus, Finland to a perfect 14-0 season. Betts served as one of the team's assistant coaches this season and helped get the team promoted to the promotion series in the Suomi-Sarja League
(Division I) starting in January 2008. Betts Captained the Prowler's 2003 Blue Jackets Cup Championship team and played for the club for four seasons. Jimmy also played for the Dayton Gems Midget Major AAA team before moving on to play for the Columbus Stars Junior B of the Central States Hockey League (CSHL) for the 2003-2004 season. In 2004-2005 Betts started the season with the Columbus Junior B Blue Jackets before joining the Hudson Valley Eagles Junior B of the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League (MJHL). With the Eagles, Betts was a member of the 2005 MJHL National Semi-Finalist team. While with Hudson Valley, Betts also split time with their Junior A Tier III team of the Atlantic Junior Hockey League (AJHL) while Captaining the Junior B team. After a career ending injury in 2005, Betts moved behind the bench coaching in the Easton Youth Hockey Association (EYHA) and with Columbus Capitals travel hockey organizations. Good luck to Jimmy as he continues to experience success in his coaching career.

Prowler hockey is proud to recognize former Prowlers who have joined the coaching ranks for the 2007-2008 season. Three former Prowler captains and Blue Jacket Cup winners have taken over the reigns of the Athens Bobcats bantam team in the Mid Ohio Bantam Hockey League (MOBHL). 2005 Reynoldsburg graduate Eric Willard was named head coach of the Bobcats and has brought on 2007 Pickerington North graduates Brian Rossi and Cody Berkebile as his assistants. Congratulations to former Prowler and Pickerington Central graduate Nick Hess who will be skating with the Wright State University Raiders of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA Division II) for the 2007-2008 season. Hess, who played for the Prowlers from 2003-2006, is third in all-time career points with 145 points (70G, 75A) in 101 games played, and remains a fixture in the Prowler record books holding a top 5 or top 10 ranking in just about every all-time career category (points, goals, assists, points-per-game, goals-per-game, power play goals, short handed goals and hits). Nick was a member of the Prowler's 2004 GCHSCHL Blue Jackets Cup Championship team as a freshman, and finished his last two Prowler seasons at second in the GCHSCHL points race with 42 (22G, 20A) in 2004-2005 and 40 (14G, 26A) in 2005-2006. Last year, Nick was the fifth Prowler to advance to the Junior B level when he advanced on to play for the Columbus Junior B Blue Jackets of the Central States Hockey League (CSHL - Junior B). Good luck to Nick as he takes the ice at the college club level.

Former Prowler and 2005 Pickerington Central graduate Ryan Markell continues to enjoy success as he becomes the first Prowler to advance to the NCAA DI collegiate hockey level. Prowler Hockey is proud to announce that this season Markell will be playing for the Ohio State Buckeyes of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA - NCAA DI). Markell advanced through the junior ranks playing in the 2006-2007 season for the Trenton Sting of the Ontario Provincial Junior "A" Hockey League (OHA - Junior A). Ryan finished the 2005-2006 with the Mahoning Valley Phantoms of the
North American Hockey League (NAHL - Junior A) after starting the season with the Cornwall Colts of the Central Junior A Hockey League (CJAHL - Junior A). Markell, the Prowler's 2002-2003 leading scorer (37G-34A-71PTS in 26 games) and a member of the 2003 GCHSCHL Blue Jackets Cup Championship team, had played for the Columbus Junior B Blue Jackets of the Central States Hockey League (CSHL - Junior B) in both 2003-2004 and 2004-2005. Good luck to Ryan as he continues his progress at the NCAA Division I collegiate level.

Former Prowler player and assistant coach Chris Van Ooyen has moved on to take over the Columbus Capitals U16 AA team for the 2007-2008 season. The 2003 Pickerington graduate was a member of the Prowler's 2003 GCHSCHL Blue Jackets Cup Championship team as a player and returned to the Prowlers as an assistant coach in 2006-2007, helping lead the team to their 2007 GCHSCHL Regular Season and Blue Jackets Cup Championships. Van Ooyen split time last season as the head coach for the Columbus Capitals U16 A team. Chris began his coaching career with the Easton Youth Hockey Association (EYHA) where he helped lead the Travel Bantam B house team for the 2003-2004 season. He quickly moved up the coaching ranks to coach the U14 AA Columbus Capitals team for the 2005-2006 season, earning the League Championship banner for the Cleveland Suburban Hockey League (CSHL). Chris also brings on former Prowler and 2006 Pickerington Central graduate Jeff Laird on board as his assistant coach. Laird was a member of the Prowler's 2003 and 2004 GCHSCHL Blue Jackets Cup Championship teams. Good luck to Chris and Jeff as they continue to find success in their coaching careers.

PROWLERS REPRESENTED WELL AT 2007 CHRIS MILLER FOUNDATION GOLF OUTING
Varsity head coach Jay C. Catherine and JV head coach Andy Shank were joined by Prowler alumni Kyle Ahlberg and Bo Ross at the 2007 Chris Miller Memorial Golf Tournament and Auction at Willow Run Golf Course in Pataskala, Ohio. Chris was a player for the Prowlers from their inaugural season in 1998-1999 through the 1999-2000 season, before joining the Peoria Mustangs of the CSHL (Junior B) in 2000. Unfortunately his life was cut short in October of 2002. The golf outing had over 100 participants and raised money for the Chris Miller Foundation. Congratulations to former St. Charles Cardinal and Ohio AAA Blue Jacket, Trent Vogelhuber, who becomes the first central Ohio product drafted by an NHL team. Vogelhuber, a graduate of Bishop Watterson High School, was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets with the 211th pick in the 7th round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday, June 23rd, 2007 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. Vogelhuber played for the St. Louis Bandits in the North American Hockey League (NAHL - Junior A) in the 2006-07 season and will play for the Des Moines Buccaneers of the United States Hockey League (USHL - Junior A) in 2007-08 after being selected fifth overall in the 2007 USHL draft. Vogelhuber plans to play at Miami University (CCHA NCAA DI) in the fall of 2008. Congratulations to Trent as he paves the way for future generations and makes Columbus and central Ohio hockey proud.

Congratulations to former Olentangy Brave, Todd Rudasill, who becomes the first GCHSCHL player ever to sign with an NCAA Division I team as he commits to play with the Ohio State University Buckeyes for the 2007-2008 season. After leading Olentangy to the GCHSCHL Blue Jacket Cup Finals in 2004 against the Prowlers, Rudasill went on to play for the Columbus Junior B Blue Jackets of the Central States Hockey League (CSHL - Junior B) in 2004-2005, and has been with the Alpena Ice Diggers of the North American Hockey League (NAHL - Junior A) for the past two seasons. Todd finished as the second leading scorer in the NAHL with 89 points (33 G, 56 A) in 59 games. Congratulations to Todd as he continues his progress to the Division I level and makes the GCHSCHL and it's member teams proud.

Former Prowler and Pickerington Central senior Nick Hess becomes the fifth Prowler to advance to the Junior B level as he joins the Columbus Junior B Blue Jackets of the Central States Hockey League (CSHL - Junior B). Following in the footsteps of PRPC Alumni Chris Miller, Ryan Markell, Jim Betts and Brian Kay, Hess leaves the Prowlers as the second all time leading point getter in PRPC Prowler Hockey history with 145 points (70G, 75A) in 101 games played, second only to his brother T.J. Hess who graduated in 2004 with 187 points (81G, 106A) in 145 games played. A member of the Prowler's 2004 GCHSCHL Blue Jackets Cup Championship team, Hess finished his last two Prowler seasons at second in the GCHSCHL points race with 42 (22G, 20A) in 2004-2005 and 40 (14G, 26A) in 2005-2006. Prowler hockey is proud to recognize former Prowlers who have moved up in the coaching ranks for the 2006-2007 season. In addition to former Prowler head coach Marty Laroche moving up to head the U16 AAA Ohio Blue Jackets team, some former players are also advancing. 2003 Reynoldsburg graduate Bo Ross is taking over the reigns with the U16 AA Columbus Capitals while 2003 Pickerington Graduate Chris Van Ooyen will be leading the U16 A Columbus Capitals and joining the Prowler Varsity team as an assistant coach. 2003 Reynoldsburg graduate Andy Shank was promoted to head coach of the Prowler JV squad this year, while last year's varsity captain and 2006 Pickerington Central graduate Ben French has been named the JV assistant. All four coaches were members of the 2003 GCHSCHL Blue Jackets Cup Championship team, while Frensh was also on board for the Prowlers' 2004 GCHSCHL Blue Jackets Cup Championship and the team's Captain for the 2005-2006 season.

Congratulations to former Prowler and Pickerington Central graduate Ryan Markell as he moved on to the Mahoning Valley Phantoms of the
North American Hockey League (NAHL - Junior A) during the 2005-2006 season.
Markell, the Prowler's 2002-03 leading scorer (37G-34A-71PTS in 26 games) and a member of the 2003 GCHSCHL Blue Jackets Cup Championship team, started the season with the Cornwall Colts of the Central Junior A Hockey League (CJAHL - Junior A) before being picked up by the Phantoms in December. Ryan had played for the Columbus Junior B Blue Jackets of the Central States Hockey League (CSHL - Junior B) in both 2003-04 and 2004-05 before advancing to the Junior A level this season. After finishing third in scoring for the Jackets in 2005 with 10G-17A-27PTS in 48 games, he produced 3G-5A-8PTS in 22 games with the Colts and 3A-3PTS in 21 games with the Phantoms at the Junior A level. Good luck to Ryan as he moves up the junior hockey ranks.
3rd ANNUAL CHRIS MILLER FOUNDATION GOLF OUTING AT WILLOW RUN SEPT 2ND
The 3rd Annual Chris Miller Foundation golf outing was held on Friday, September 2nd, 2005, at the Willow Run Golf Course (at State Routes 310 & 161, Alexandria, OH).
Tom and Doreen Miller, parents of former Prowler Chris Miller, have sponsored the golf outing annually since Chris’ passing in 2002, with the first two events raising $17,000. The proceeds are used to buy hockey equipment for underprivileged children, with portions of the contributions donated to the Ronald McDonald House and Franklin County Children Services among other local agencies and charities. This year, the Foundation's goal was to raise $20,000 at the outing.
Professional and college sports teams from around the country have helped make the golf outing a success. The Foundation organizes a silent auction in conjunction with the event, with the Ohio State University and Columbus Blue Jackets, among others, donating items.
This year, the Foundation recieved support at the tournament with several Blue Jackets' players participating along with Doug MacLean, the team's GM and president.

Congratulations to Pickerington North senior Bryan Kay who joined Pickerington Central senior Ryan Markell and 2003 Pickerington High School graduate Jimmy Betts on the Columbus Junior B Blue Jackets roster for 2004-2005. Kay was the Prowler's leading scorer in 2003-2004 with 37 goals, 39 assists and 76 points in 31 games, including the GCHSCHL Blue Jackets Cup clinching goal with 15 seconds left in the 2004 final. Markell led the Prowler's in 2002-2003 with 37 gaols, 34 assists and 71 points in 26 games, while Betts served as the Prowler's captain in 2002-2003 and finished that season with 20 goals, 18 assists and 38 points in 21 games.
